State relief funds in short supply

Less than a year after lawmakers appropriated more than $40million for flood-relief efforts, state officials must figure out howmuch money they need to cope with the latest flooding in SouthernWest Virginia.

Keith Burdette, the legislative liaison for Gov. Bob Wise, saidWise's office could probably come up with about $2 million from thegovernor's contingency fund by shifting some money around.

While Wise spent Friday touring the flooded areas, Burdette andother staff members pored over the budget to figure out what fundsare left with less than two months remaining in the state's fiscalyear.
