NSW: Plane with mechanical problems lands safely=2

Earlier, Air Vanuatu's Sydney manager STEVE EYRE said the flight was diverted to Sydney
after a tyre tread was found on a runway shortly after it took off from Melbourne.

He said the pilot was alerted the tyre tread could have been his, but it could also
have been one of any other three 737s operating in the area at the time.

Police in Sydney closed several major streets surrounding Sydney airport, including
General Holmes Drive.

The plane, which is currently stationary on the tarmac, landed at 2.50pm (AEST).

Passengers are yet to disembark.
