These beefy powderkegs are played by actors who have scooped up the last four Emmys for best actor in a drama. They anchor the two current shows that actually earn the adjective ``must-watch.'' These actors can, without hyperbole, be described as brilliant.

Mob boss Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) and Detective Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) return to television this week in a collision of humanity and avarice. ``The Sopranos'' (season five premieres at 9 p.m. Sunday, HBO) and ``The Shield'' (season three premieres at 10 p.m. Tuesday, FX) resume their Emmy battle for the best drama and actor on TV.
