Our coverage of the Watervliet bicentennial in last Sunday's paper drew a measure of critical comment because of one picture.

The photograph depicted a burly, bearded father cradling his infant son while holding a small American flag, as they both, in three-quarter profile that revealed a strong family resemblance, watched the parade. The picture was large and along with a companion photo, showing a woman in combat fatigues holding a folded flag, dominated the front of the local section.

What stirred a few phone calls the morning after was not the composition of the photo or the display, but the identity of the father. He was Thomas Alaxanian Jr., a former member of the notorious Hell's Angels motorcycle club. Alaxanian had …
