Fed: Union members vote against Qantas wage freeze
Qantas has been warned to brace for further industrial action after maintenance workers
voted overwhelmingly against a an 18 month wage freeze sought by the airline.
The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union says more than 90 per cent of the 3,500
members have voted against the wage freeze ahead of another hearing in the Industrial
Relations Commission in Melbourne tomorrow.
Union national secretary DOUG CAMERON says workers around the country are receiving
wage increases of between four and six per cent and Qantas maintenance staff are seeking
something similar.
But the carrier has tried to impose an 18-month wage freeze despite announcing plans
to launch a budget carrier next year.
