FED:Youths in poor and remote areas in system

A report's found young people in remote or poor areas are more likely to be in the
juvenile justice system than their counterparts in major cities.

The details are in an Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report .. which focuses
on juvenile justice in Australia from 2008-2009.

Author of the report RACHEL AALDERS says it found young people from very remote areas
are about six times as likely to be under community-based supervision and five times as
likely to be in detention than their counterparts living in major cities.

And .. young people from areas of low socioeconomic status are about five times as
likely to be under community-based supervision as those from areas of high socioeconomic
status .. and almost six times likely to be in detention.
